The Little Mermaid may be one of Disney's most beloved classics, but there's more to this underwater adventure than meets the eye. From hidden Mickeys to sly cameos, this movie is packed with Easter eggs waiting to be discovered. So grab your snorkel and let's dive in!
The Hidden Mickeys:
In addition to the two examples I mentioned earlier, there is at least one more hidden Mickey in the movie. During the wedding scene at the end, look for a hidden Mickey formed by the pattern on the priest's robe.
Sebastian's Cameo:
Keep an eye out for Sebastian the crab during King Triton's entrance scene. He is hiding behind a statue on the left side of the screen.
The Rescuers:
The Little Mermaid isn't the only Disney movie to contain hidden Easter eggs. In fact, Disney animators have a long tradition of including references to other movies in their work. The cameo by Bernard and Bianca from The Rescuers is just one example.
Ursula's Necklace:
If you look closely at Ursula's necklace, you can see that it is actually a pair of eels twisted together. These eels are Flotsam and Jetsam, Ursula's minions and henchmen.
Hidden References:
Disney movies are filled with references to other movies, both within the same universe and outside of it. For example, during the "Under the Sea" sequence, Sebastian imitates the dance of Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. In another scene, a book lying on a table in Prince Eric's castle bears a striking resemblance to the book from The Sword in the Stone.
